About Dr Michelle ...

In 2009 she set up the Riverstone Family Medical Practice with Dr Sharon Muir to provide primary care services with a focus on holistic care and being able to spend time with patients to get to know them and ‘walk the journey of life’ with them.

Having worked in Western Sydney for over 30 years, she has many long-term patients and continues to enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds as well as teaching the doctors of the future.

Dr Michelle is not currently taking on new patients.

Dr Michelle went to primary school in Manly Vale then high school in Manly.  Having completed her medical training at the University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital she did her training as a junior doctor at Westmead, Mt Druitt and Blacktown Hospitals.  She enjoyed working with the people of Western Sydney and set up a practice in St Marys, later joining a group practice in Penrith.

During her training as a GP, she developed an interest in managing work injuries and did further training in this area through WorkCover NSW.  She currently lectures to GPs registrars on managing work related injuries.

With a growing burden of mental health problems in the community and a limited number of psychiatrists in Western Sydney, she developed an interest in mental health and has completed extra training including delivering focused psychological strategies.  She helped set up the ‘Primary Care Psychiatric Liaison Service’ in Western Sydney where a psychiatrist is involved in case conferences with GPs and their patients to assist in ongoing care.

Teaching of GP Registrars in General Practice

Teaching the GPs of the future is very important to Dr Michelle and she has been involved in this on and off for over 20 years. GP Registrars spend time during their training at different practices and are supervised and mentored by Dr Michelle.

Medical Student teaching

Students from Notre Dame University are placed in Riverstone Family Medical Practice as part of their training. During their time they sit in with Dr Michelle (with permission of the patient) as well as other GPs and the nurses. Experience in general practice is vital to their training as doctors.
